Netball and NetSetGo

2017 AGM

Thank you to all those who attended the meeting and/or sent apologies. Thankfully we have managed to fill all position except Club Secretary and U8 NSG Supervisor. The Club Secretary is a particularly important role, so if you can assist or need more information please contact Mel or Kirsten:

We farewelled and thanked two long serving and dedicated volunteers, Alison Rourke and Janice Choy. Both will be missed and have left our Club in a far better position.

Some of our new committee members include: Emma McGoldrick, Saskia Kirsin, Sarah Saunders, Barbara Trickett, Lisa Stansford, Prue Coroneos, Claudia Zines, and Georgina Varney. Sincere thanks to these wonderful volunteers who join Kirsten Delaney, Linda Shaw, Carmen Jom and Mel Fisher in continuing to build a great netball club for the girls.

WPS Netball & NSG in 2018

This will be updated shortly. Netball and NetSetGo registrations currently closed.

Important information for girls in school grades 4 & 5, 2018

In 2018, WPS Netball Club will continue to fall into line with Northern Suburbs Netball Association’s policy that all girls in the U10s and U11s play in their calendar-year age groups, not school-grade groups. Moving forward, all WPS girls in the Friday night competition (U10,11,12) will play in their calendar age groups, not school grade groups. This applies to all clubs in the NSNA competition.

Exceptions to this age-based grading are dependent on registration numbers and team numbers,  and will only be made after registration has closed and grading is complete. To assist with team formation, NSNA may allow a maximum of 6 younger girls to go through to the upper age group if the club is otherwise unable to form teams of appropriate numbers. In this case, independent graders will select the most able girls to ‘play up’, based on skills and abilities. For this reason, we are allowing ‘younger’ girls to attend grading in their school grade group, rather than their age group. The remaining ‘younger’ girls will be grouped into a team together to play in their calendar age group. Teams of composite school grade groups will be avoided where possible.

Calendar year age-based team formation may not apply to girls in year 6, 2018. This is because NSNA only introduced the requirements for girls starting in the 10s in 2016 (who will play in the 11s in 2017). As such, the girls who played in the U11s competition in 2016 are unaffected.

General InformationWPS Netball 2013

WPS Netball Club is a parent-run organisation encouraging all WPS students from Grade 2 to Grade 6 to participate in the sport of netball.

Our teams play in the Northern Suburbs Netball Association (NSNA) winter competition, which runs from the beginning of April until the end of September. For more information regarding Netball, click here to go directly to the NSNA website.

All girls under 10 are eligible to participate in a modified rules version of netball, called NetSetGo. The NetSetGo Comp (formerly Nettas) is designed to teach younger players the rules of the game, as well as good sportsmanship and netball skills.

NetSetGo U8s and U9s are generally not graded and the girls mostly play in friendship teams. NetSetGo matches are played on Saturday mornings from 7:45am at courts in North Sydney. The competition commences in April 2018. Match times will be provided by NSNA in March 2018.

The top grades of U9s NetSetGo are played under full netball rules, generally at WLC.

Our U10s, U11s and U12s players, participate in Friday night netball, from 4.30-7pm at the Willoughby Leisure Centre. Some of the 12s teams may play on Saturday mornings at WLC. This will be determined by NSNA in March 2018.

All players, parents, coaches, managers, umpires and spectators must abide by the Willoughby Netball Club’s Codes of Conduct.

Team Grading

All U10s, U11s and U12s girls registering to play netball for WPS Netball Club will be individually graded and allocated to teams based on their skills and ability. The grading process is independent and is undertaken by graders provided by Northern Suburbs Netball Association.

Coaches and managers from the previous season are also asked to rank the players in their teams.

The U10s, U11s and U12s teams play in a competition where all Clubs individually grade both their players and teams to ensure all girls are playing in the division which best reflects their capabilities.

In registering your daughter to play for WPS Netball Club you agree to accept this grading process and the decision of the Club on team selection.  If you chose to withdraw your daughter from the Club following grading you will forfeit the registration fee.

You can see more about our grading policy here.

For NetSetGo, the netball convenors will do their best to ensure that all requests to play with friends are accommodated.

All U9s girls who are in Year 3 in 2018 can remain in their friendship teams from 2017.

Girls STARTING to play in the NetSetGo comp in year 3, 2018, will be allocated a team to play with. Friendship groups will be accommodated where possible.

Important Age Note for 7 year olds (2018): players who commence NetSetGo at age 7 (based on calendar year), may be required to play 3 years of NetSetGo.
